University Scientists say that if someone plays a music instrument that their ability to understand math and science would be improved.

The main advantage of an instrument is that it helps you learn to deal with more things at one time and offers discipline.

“Playing an instrument releases stress it helps the mood and spirit learning an instrument disciplines by reading and playing with those notes, tone and rhythm at the same time” assistant principal Diana Pridemore that plays the piccolo, piano and flute said.

The power of trying to increase the mind may take more time than the person is willing. This is not a quick way to get good at a subject, if the goal is finding a quick method to be better in these areas.

“It takes a lifetime to get good, the more you play the better you get; if you cease to practice you will lose the techniques,” Pre-cal teacher Mrs. Bride that played the piano said.

According to Science researchers the piano helps three areas of the brain.

“Instruments improve motor skills of auditory perception (reaction times). Listening to Mozart improves mental images from physical objects. (Reasoning skills). The rhythm of music is known to help improve reading.” scientist Jackie Simon on www.madsci.org a website introducing science research on different topics, introducing science labs and techniques for making science more fun.

Students that play within a two year to four year range have found that an instrument has helped them with their schooling.

“I feel that my understanding has improved my memory has improved, and I have developed a greater comprehension of Math,” freshman Brenham Adams that has played the clarinet for four years said.

To some students an instrument has nothing to do with your studies and the ability to understand something is within them and they must work hard to unlock it.

“I feel that music’s totally different than your subjects in school. I use music as a way to relieve stress it helps take me away from school,” junior Luke Whitney, who plays the guitar and piano, said.

Learning music does have its stress and time and commitment, but some feel that trying to learn music has no disadvantages.

“Everyone has something they can gain from being involved in music, some students relate to rhythm through mathematics,” band director Shannon Copeland said.

Some that play instruments feel that the piano is the best for improving mental capacity

“The piano is the best instrument, due to the amount of practice that needed to master the skill proving that both sides of the brain work at once,” Pridemore said.
