Since 2004, the Easton Business Association and Easton Neighborhood Watch have been working together to make Easton a better place.
The mission statement of this organization is “To promote safety, communication, and revitalize the business courter of Elm Avenue.”
The EBA has been sponsoring Elm Avenue clean-ups to help make Easton look like a warm and welcoming place. The last one was on October 11.
Members of the community attended the event along with members of Washington Union’s Environmental club.
“The Elm Avenue clean-up was a success,” said Easton Business Association Coordinator Janie Silva. “We had a good mix of people.”
Easton Business Association has also decided to have a fundraising event on December 6th from 10 a.m. to two p.m.
The Fundraiser “Trees for Trees” will be a Christmas tree sale.
“The funds raised,” Silva said. “Will go to park/landscape and beautification projects.”
Plain and pre-decorated Christmas trees will be sold and auctioned off at the lot East of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Pre-decorated trees will be decorated by classrooms from the local area schools. Also there will be food and drinks provided by local businesses.
The first project that the fundraiser money will support involves the Washington Union sports facilities.
“With the money raised,” Silva said. “We would like to plant trees along the tennis courts and baseball diamonds.”
Three other projects that have been proposed by the EBA will affect not only WUHS, but the entire Easton community.
The first project proposed is the Development of Fitness Program that will target the senior community of Easton.
The second project proposed is improvement to the Youth Sports Facility at Washington Union. The proposed ideas are to add beauty to the football field, tennis courts, baseball fields, and intersection improvement at the intersection of Clara and Lincoln.
The Final proposed project is a hiking trail on Lily Avenue and 41. The trail is to be a 9/10 of a mile trail with trees and plants along it.
