With the all-important senior year looming on the horizon, the class of 2008 attended assemblies during advisory this week to learn about their options for next year.

Counselor George Kessler was the master of ceremonies on both Wednesday and Thursday, pacing the floor incessantly as he spoke about graduation requirements, colleges, and class decisions.

“We are about to start programming juniors for their senior classes,” he said. “We will be calling [juniors] in [for programming] over the next week or so.”

Kessler went on to speak about the pros and cons of each of the three different class levels that will be offered next year. A recurring theme was whether or not people are willing to make the commitment for higher-level classes.

“Everyone has the right to sign up for AP or honors classes, but the big question is whether it’s the right decision for you,” he told the juniors on Thursday.

Counselors Anna Perez and Erin Goldman spoke more in depth about high school graduation (seniors need to obtain 230 credits in order to graduate) and university requirements.

The heads of several departments took the floor to talk about their respective advanced placement class offerings, while at the same time offering a stern warning that APs may not be for everybody.

Math Department Chair Robert Baker was the most adamant about the difficulties of his high-level classes, specifically asking students to not apply if they received a “C” in any of their previous levels of math.

While most students in the SAS program have already chosen their classes for next year, the rest of the student body will receive summonses in coming weeks.
