It was October 22nd, 2009.  Senior Katie Patterson was driving to school with her two younger brothers, Erik and Jake, when she got into an accident.
She was on Highway 53, one hundred feet away from the intersection of Bootleggers, when she saw a car stop at the intersection and then go across.  She tried to swerve to the left to try to miss the car, but ended up crashing into it anyway.  In this other car there were two people, driver Braydon Flamang and passenger Brian Spieler.

After the impact, the first thing Katie did was breathe, but she couldn’t catch her breath.  Then she found Erik walking around outside the car.  Jake was sitting up by her scared.  Being the good older sister she is, she tried to comfort him.  Soon Mrs. Jolly came upon the scene and told Katie she should get out of the car, because the car smelled of gas.
Then Lisa Love started to comfort Katie until Gerrod Richard (Katie’s boyfriend) came by her side.  Then he handled it from there.
While that was going on, Mrs. Nancy got there and went into the car to make sure Jake was ok.  She stayed with him until the ambulance came and took him to Spooner.  Katie and Erik went to St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior.

Katie Patterson and her two brothers had to be in the hospital for three hours, but to Katie it only felt like a half an hour.  She was cold and was just trying to get warm and was out of it.

She had three injuries: a bruised, cut, swollen knee; seat belt rash; and whiplash.  Her brother Erik, who was in the passenger seat, had to get stitches in his upper lip.  Her youngest brother Jake hurt his hip and ankle and had to get a CT scan, but there was nothing found.

Katie Patterson and her two brothers were then taken home by their mother to be taken care of until they came back to school that Monday morning.  Luckily their medical insurance took care of the bill, and everyone is ok.
