At-a-glance

Some may view art as a hobby, but for others it can become a career. One student has used artistic skills, some of which he has learned in Revere High School’s Digital Design class, to create a business that is becoming known nationwide.
Senior Nick Bologna, with the help of out-of-state friends Kyle Irvin and Carney Larable, created the clothing line LIFE Apparel to design and sell clothes across the country.
"LIFE Apparel . . . stands for Living Individuals From Earth," Bologna said.
Bologna hopes his clothing line will help him achieve future endeavors.
"I started [LIFE Apparel] for myself because I like creating different things, and the [clothing] industry opens doors to other opportunities. It is good exposure. Once people started [liking the clothes] and got on board it just sort of took off," Bologna said.
Each member of the design team finds inspiration from different sources.
"We look at other art and try to be more innovative, and we look at other artists. We try and see what would look cool and what would work well," Irvin said.
Other elements affect Bologna, Irvin, and Larable when trying to come up with ideas for designs.
"Snowboarding itself . . . television . . . going outdoors and traveling [inspire me]," Larable said.
The second step in Bologna’s clothing line process is to send in the designs to be printed on clothing items such as t-shirts and hoodies.
"A company called Jackprints in Cleveland is where everything is printed and made. I send the designs in and pick out the clothing through American Apparel to be made on and they take care of the rest. Later on I will be doing cut and sew-on pieces," Bologna said.
Up to this point, LIFE Apparel has sold clothes to people in various states including California, New York, New Hampshire, and Oregon.
"We kind of try to appeal to everyone and any type of style," Irvin said.
Bologna and friends made clothes unisex and encourage everyone to take a look at the clothes.
Bologna said that he does not want to stay in one specific area of buyers, but typically people that snowboard and skate buy the clothing.
Although Bologna already has accomplished much with LIFE Apparel, he still has other plans for his future.
"I plan on this being part of my career, but not the sole thing. I am actually going into music and am currently recording an album, which will be dropping sometime in 2010," Bologna said.
Bologna, Irvin, and Larable are working hard on new designs for LIFE Apparel and hope to make more clothes for buyers soon.
