The Starkville High School film club plans to participate
the Magnolia Film Festival for the first time. The club also has a new sponsor,
social studies and chorus teacher Joe Evans.
“The plan is to enter, thus giving them deadlines,
objectives, etc.,” Evans said. “Sometimes deadlines make great motivators.”
The club has set many goals for itself by entering the
festival.
“Of course, we’ll try to win the film festival,” film club president
and junior George Bennett said. “We’re hoping it might inspire someone in the
club. A lot of people will get knowledge and experience out of it.”
Students have submitted and voted on ideas for the
film. Results will be discussed at
the next meeting. Nearly every student gave ideas.
“I’m pretty overwhelmed with the club this year,” sophomore
Rex Ames said. “We’ll be able to do so much more. Mr. Evans can help us do
anything. We’ve got good people leading and helping us that can make us really
well-known, seeing as how we really didn’t do all that much last year.”
Evans is easer to help the club accomplish its goals.
“My job is to be a cheerleader,” Evans said. “I can’t do
anything for the club, but I want to keep them motivated. They have so many ideas.
I want to make them keep going.”
The club has several goals besides the festival.
“One of the things I want to do with the club is make great
short films,” Bennett said.
The club might expand into areas outside of creative films.
“I hope that people realize that they can use us for
anything,” Ames said. “We can do things like documentaries, orientation videos,
and covering community service
events around Starkville.”
The next film club meeting time has not been decided.
