All of the students participating in the Toys for Tots program had a lot of fun bagging the toys. They gathered a total of 100 bags of toys for unfortunate families. - John Matthews
On December 1st,
students from THS and TMS went to the Toys for Tots warehouse in
Pflugerville. While they were there,
they bagged up 100 bags of toys for families that wouldn’t be able to purchase
presents this year at Christmas.
Students from THS included: Trey Meaker (11), Kadijah Dembo (12), Kiara
Baker (11), Audrey Harris (10), Ashlynn Volek (10), Joie Aparicio (12), and
Austyn Savage (12). TMS students were Reed Powell and Dayton Volek.
Students left right after school and went to the
warehouse. Inside the warehouse were about 5 rows of unused, good conditioned
toys. The toys were divided up into age and grade.
“When we got there, I was expecting there to be like,
isles of toys on shelves, but they were just on the floor. It wasn’t all that
bad,” Kadijah Dembo said.
Groups of two students were given a list of 20 families
to “shop” for. Each child listed was given two toys each.
“[While we were bagging up toys] I felt like I was doing
a good deed,” Dembo said. “I usually have only seen celebrities giving back, so
it made me feel really kind hearted.”
“Just knowing that people who won’t be able to get
presents will actually get presents is pretty cool,” Trey Meaker said.
Taking
part in “Toys for Tots” touched everyone in a very special way, and while the
bagging of the toys only lasted about an hour, the impact “Toys for Tots” had
on a family will last a lifetime.
