The old Wal-Mart has been vacant for several years. However, last year Market Place Taylor opened, reviving the building, and just recently a new addition was made and Taylor Hitting Zone was established. Since Taylor Hitting Zone’s opening, students have been spending much time there practicing their baseball/softball skills and increasing their talent. 

“You can go there and you don’t just have to hit, you can throw and work on your skills. It is really nice with the brand new turf and nets. There are barstools, picnic tables, and a new flat screen T.V. to watch sports on,” Lauren Hortenstine (9) said.

The Taylor Hitting Zone is located at the old Wal-Mart in the far right corner. They have four tunnels with baseball and softball pitching machines, one pitching mound and there is another one coming soon. There are screens on every tunnel for live pitching, several tees, a 60” flat screen T.V., and water and gatorade are also for sale. 

“It’s so nice, and it’s very spacey. You’re able to do a lot more things because there is so much room,” Erik Nunez (11) said. 

The hitting zone is becoming extremely popular with the athletes here at Taylor High, and the hours make it convenient for students who have many responsibilities. Taylor Hitting Zone is open from Monday through Friday from 4-9 P.M., Saturday from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. and Sunday from 1-5 P.M.

“You can basically go whenever you want, and it’s a really fun place to hang out with friends and just hit,” David Ancira (10) said.

The Grand Opening is Saturday, January 21st. They will have Round Rock Express representatives, Spike, Pro Baseball players, and some instructors for softball and baseball there as well.
