Recently Turner has joined a pilot program for a new C-FBISD grading policy. Turner joined the pilot because it allows the school to give more input on the development of the plan.
The new grading policy focuses on final test grades as the majority of a student's final grade, putting less importance on homework. Homework is now worth 2.5 percent of a student's grade. This lets teachers see how well students know the material overall.
“It affects me negatively, because I’m not as good a test taker than I am a homework doer,” said Sophomore Molly Underwood.
The new policy also gives teachers new grading opportunities, like giving grades based on class discussions. If a teacher feels the student knows the material, then they can give them a grade accordingly.
"This gives us teachers more flexibility, and a better chance to help students who might be struggling," said Cliff Moran, Biology teacher.
The new grading policy allows students’ grades to be tremendously affected by what they know. It also allows teachers to better understand what information students are actually taking in.
