Many high school students had the opportunity to attend camps this summer to help prepare them for high school courses and college courses or majors.

This summer I, Rachel Hook, went to the University of Iowa Summer Journalism Camp.  I was in the classes for photojournalism. This camp was a great experience and I learned many things. Many days my instructors just told me to go explore Iowa City and they gave me a certain assignment to photograph. Some of the things they assigned were to take one hundred pictures of anything, take one picture every half hour for three hours, and another was to go on a scavenger hunt and photograph the things we had to find.  We also went to the county fair two days to get more photographs. I’m glad I went to this camp because I met a lot of new people and had a great time. Oh and did I mention Kiersten Combs went with me and was my roommate?! Let’s hear from other students who also went to educational camps this summer!

Kiersten Combs went to the University of Iowa Summer Journalism Camp also.  She took the classes for graphic design.  Kiersten says, “I learned how to use Adobe In Design. I was taught how to properly format a newspaper and taught tips to create a yearbook, magazine, and newspaper. I made new friends and had a blast.”

Cierra Moshier went to Wartburg University in Waverly, Iowa to a broadcasting camp. Cierra says, “I learned how to be an anchor on live television, how to host a live radio show, how to work control room, and overall had a great time.

Travis Lorenzen went to Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Melbourne, Florida.   He went to a five day engineering camp.  Travis says, “I learned about many areas of Engineering, discovered new programs, learned new experiments and ideas, and also discovered more about college life. Camp was a blast and I met many cool people who I still talk to today.”

Nathan Johnson went to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He went to a weeklong Electrical Engineering camp.  “I learned topics about robotics, signal modulation, power grid design, and I even built my own radio circuit. I made friends during this time.”

Below are pictures of these outstanding students!
