The girls volleyball team dressed in their black spankies and pink and black tees at their game against Southwest to support "Volley for Madison."

The Lady Vipers have been ardent supporters of little Madison Schafer, daughter of math teacher Ms. Nava, ever since they found out she had a brain tumor a little over a year ago.

A majority of students accompanied by their families not only showed up for the October 18 game but also played along with the theme by wearing pink to the game.

The team won the first set with 25-18. As if winning the first set wasn’t enough to cheer them on, there was a DJ that played music to pump them up and also to support the cause.

The audience chanted "Lets go Vipers, lets go," along with the DJ’s music every chance they had. They also partaked in the traditional stomping of their feet to the music’s beat.

Not only was everything there supporting the cause by wearing pink, but even the gym was decorated with pink balloons on every player’s chair and along the benches.

After winning their first set, the winning streak continued on to the second set. The ladies did their "victory dance" (squatting down and smacking the floor) every time they scored another point. They won 25-17.

Unfortunately, the third set started off with a point from the opposing team, but the crowd and the benched teammates cheered them along with the coach standing up and applauding them every time they scored. The Lady Vipers lost the third set 18-25 and the fourth set 11-25 which resulted in a tie-breaker. This didn’t stop them from making an incredible come back less than five minutes into the fifth set.

They started the set 3-2 which left the crowd knowing that they were determined to play their best or as senior co-Captain Amanda Comesanas said, "learn to finish a game and stay strong."

Everyone was cheering, but they still lost 10-15. They raised a lot of money for a great cause by accepting donations in exchange for Madison dolls.

According to Ms. Fitzpatrick, they raised a whopping $800 in just one night which is a great help for the Schafer family.
