The long-awaited winter premiere of ABC Family's hit show Pretty Little Liars aired on Monday, January 2nd. The promotional advertisements for the show promised a lot of adventure this season, including a fight between the girls, a deal with "A", and a missing character. In the premiere alone, the first two items on that list were exposed. Audiences should look forward to the remainder of the season because of the slated revealing of “A”.
This week's episode, Through Many Dangers, Toils and Snares, started off with the girls picking up trash in orange jumpsuits- a reference to the end of the last season, where they were tricked by "A" into holding the shovel that had been identified as the murder weapon of Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterese). The girls had been assigned to community service after being convicted of tampering with evidence. The liars also mention having some evidence that "A" wouldn't want revealed. They get into arguments throughout the episode since Emily (Shay Mitchell) wants to make a deal with "A" but Spencer (Troian Bellsario), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Aria (Lucy Hale) think it would be too dangerous. Later in the episode "A" texts Emily, eager to make a deal face-to-face. Emily agrees to meet "A" and this leads to a shocking confrontation.
This episode features an unexpected twist halfway through, which indicated a strong ending to this season. Aside from the overall plot concerning the girls' dealings with "A," each of the girl's individual stories this week were also interesting. There was an especially significant turning point in the relationship between Aria and Ezra (Ian Harding). Overall, the episode was compelling and intriguing; viewers will definitely want to find out what happens next!
