A scholarship is a sum of money or an aid granted to a student because of their merit or a need to pursue his or her studies.
There are many different scholarships out there for students that do well in school, or for those who have special talents or for those who have special needs. There are scholarships for any and everything. There are both academic and athletic scholarships; scholarships that have to do with what career field you want to be in and even ones from popular and known businesses, such as: Best Buy, KFC, Burger King, Coca-Cola, the Ronald McDonald House Charities U.S. scholarship and many, many more.
Many merit scholarships are offered by colleges and universities themselves, and may require more than just academic excellence. For example, some may require you have some other honorary title or have received some other scholarships or recognition by an esteemed organization or society such as National Merit Scholarships or the National Council of Teachers of English awards.
Voluntary acts and doing charity are also rewarded. Scholarships for students who are agnostic or atheist exist, even though they aren’t as common as traditional religious scholarships that award funding to students who are Catholic or Jewish, for example. But they are out there, and most are just as generous as those awarding funding based on your religion.
Students who consider themselves agnostic or atheist may then have a better chance to land some of these scholarships because there is less competition for them. The Atheists for Human Rights Award is a known scholarship.
Whatever talent you have, whatever religion you believe in or don’t believe in, how athletic you are or how good you are in school, there is a scholarship out there for you. There is even a scholarship for being left-handed! Just make sure you do your best in school and let you talents be known. You never know what school may accept you for you and your outstanding qualities.
