The trend has brought about some issues, as some people do not find them appropriate; however, leggings as pants shouldn’t be abolished permanently. It is a style; there are good and bad ways to wear them. Leggings have enjoyed one of the longest careers of any article of clothing on the fashion scene. They are popular to wear because they are comfortable, work with a lot of types of clothing and grab a lot of attention because their form-fitting shape shows off the body; the catch is that it shows off everything. Leggings are more appropriate when girls wear something that will cover their butt, but many choose not to do so. There are lurking dangers that come with wearing leggings as pants that most girls should be aware of. Most leggings are a made of a thin spandex blend material which, of course, stretches when you move; in certain lighting or when girls bend over the leggings stretch and become see through. Some girls probably do not realize this, but it is seen every day in the hallways. Leggings grab a lot of attention from teachers, boys and girls, all for different reasons. Because of all this attention, it is understandable why some people would find them inappropriate. According to German teacher Sandra Nicholson, leggings are not pants and should be worn with a shirt that covers the butt. Where people wear leggings could be an issue as well. There is a difference between wearing them in your own home and wearing them in public. People can wear what they want in their own homes, but when you step out in public, you are exposing yourself, and not everyone is going to be fond of that. Leggings are similar to popular yoga pants and the spandex pants worn in the 80’s. Although they are similar, leggings are much thinner than yoga pants and yoga pants are not see-through when stretched. Spandex was form-fitting and stretchy like leggings, but once again was not as thin and they were not as flattering. Spandex pants had a higher waist and were not as form fitting in the upper region as leggings. It looks like leggings are here to stay, and hopefully girls will pick up how and how not to wear them in public.
