On Saturday 14, 2011 the S&S Middle School boys A teams traveled to Callisburg to play in the tournament.  There were eight teams including S&S, Howe, Whitesboro, Pilot Point, Alvord, Bells, Callisburg, and the Red River Rattlers. S&S 7th grade A ended up getting second place in the tournament and 8th grade A ended up fourth. 7th grade played four games and 8th grade played three. All in all the S&S boys worked hard and played well.

To get a different perspective we asked some of the players some questions.

“What was the highlight of the game?”

Moose Duarte

 “Devin stuffing a kid.”

Trevor Bennett

“Moose splitting the kid’s nose in two.”

Colby Howard

“When Devin shot and missed and Moose saved it and made the basket.”

8th Grade

Joshua Simms

 “Winning our first game.”

 Bryson Buckner

 “Making my first three pointer.”

“What could you have done to improve your performance?”

Moose Duarte

“Working on my three pointers.”

Trevor Bennett

“Not being tired during the last game.”

Colby Howard

“Work harder at rebounding.”

8TH Grade

Joshua Simms

“Predicting what the other team is going to do.”

Bryson Buckner

“Work better on blocking out.”

To get a better understanding on the games we asked their two head coaches some questions on how they thought their team did as a whole.

“Do you think they played as a team?”

Coach Russell

Yes, they did until the third game.”

Coach Abate

“Yes they did all the way through the tournament.”

“What did you see that your team could do to improve their performance?”

Coach Russell

“They would get a lot farther if they blocked out and worked on their free throws.”

Coach Abate

“They did really good through the third game when they started getting tired.”

7th Grade

1st game- 26-4 (won)

2nd game- 30-12 (won)

 Championship game- 28-24 (lost)

8th Grade

1st game- 42-20 (won)

2nd game- 36-28 (lost)
