After many years of hard work, the members of Tyngsborough’s drama program have been recognized for their talent. On Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m., the cast and crew of the Tyngsborough High School production, The Scarlet Pimpernel, went to the North Shore Music Theater’s 2nd Annual Spotlight Awards.

Tyngsborough’s production of The Scarlet Pimpernel was nominated for Best Lighting Design, Best Costume Design, Best Ensemble/Chorus, Best Leading Actor (Richard Lindenfelzer), and Best Musical.

The North Shore Music Theater (NSMT) first opened in the 1950s as a place to present Broadway and comedy shows. Since then, the NSMT has turned into the largest non-profit producing theater in New England, having approximately 350,000 audience members per year.

25 high schools, including Tyngsborough High School, were invited to the event.

Last year’s award ceremony was the first ever. Although there has only been one, this year’s ceremony was definitely one to remember.

“Our second year is shaping up to be even more spectacular than the first,” says Burgess Clark, NSMT’s director of Education. “Our panel of judges saw so many impressive productions that we had a truly tough time determining the best of the best.”

THS got the chance to perform a scene from The Scarlet Pimpernel during the award show.

15 awards were given out during the night. The biggest award, “Best Musical,” was awarded to Dracut High School for their performance of Fiddler on the Roof.

Although Tyngsborough didn’t take home any awards, they did leave with a donation for their drama program. Each of the ten schools nominated for Best Musical received a 1,000 dollar donation from Danversbank to help further the school’s performing arts program.
