Roars of laughter filled the theater as Rialto High’s Broadway Knights presented the “Storybook Theater” to visiting students from Morris, Kelly, Casey and Garcia Elementary Schools on February 28.

The “Storybook Theater” turned classic children’s books into short skits in a fun and exciting approach: a classroom of young children is stuck inside due to a storm when they are visited by a friendly woman who has brought along her Magical Reading Wagon. As the wagon magically chose a group of stories for these students to read, the Knights took the stage and performed their own interpretation of the books in the skits. Some of the books featured were The Giving Tree, Green Eggs and Ham, The Billy Goat’s Gruff, and There’s a Nightmare in my Attic.

The Broadway Knights spent over a month choosing the books, memorizing and writing scripts for them. Each was student directed and they picked their own cast and put the entire skit together.

All their hard work paid off and the “Storybook Theater” was a hit with the kids.

A 3rd grade class from Morris Elementary shouted and hollered out to share their favorite skit of the show. The skit for No, I Won, I Won was a favorite amongst the kids. Rodrigo Rodriguez and Aja Zamora raced around the theater to see who the true all-time winner is, creating excitement amongst the kids.

The show was “awesome…nice…sweet… and exciting,” elementary students, Andy, Gabriel and Anthony agreed.

Story Book Theater has become a tradition at RHS, and for the local elementary schools. Someday, these same kids just might be up on the stage putting on the show for the little’uns that fill their shoes.
