Those who were here last year have probably noticed the accumulation of students here at Deltona High. The hallways are overflowing with lots of new faces along with some old ones.
“I feel that it’s a big annoyance because you’re constantly getting stepped on or shoved or you have to walk in the dirt,” said sophomore Alyssa Karagosian. This makes it difficult for some students to get to class on time. Many students also stop in the middle of the hallways to chat with friends which blocks passage for other students trying to get by.
“I think they should build another high school because DHS is already too crowded and it’s hard to get to class on time,” said junior Stephanie Mateo.
The lunch lines are also very long. Students barely have enough time to finish their lunch before the bell rings.
“I order my lunch and only get to eat half of it,” said sophomore Johnny Velez. The outcome of this is that they’ll end up being hungry later on in the day which makes it difficult for them to focus on anything else, other than food, in class.
“They should give us more time to get our lunch and eat,” said Mateo.
The teachers expect students to arrive to class on time and be in their seats before the bell rings, but that’s kind of difficult to do for those who have classes far apart from each other because for instance, if they’re coming all the way from building A to portable R78, with a big crowd in between them and their destination, it will be almost impossible to make it to class on time in only eight minutes.
Some students’ opinions on the school’s population differ from everyone else’s.
“It’s crazy that it’s crowded, but it’s also good because that means that more students are coming to school and the more students that come to school the better,” said senior Jerred Mason.
Whether the school makes changes to fit the needs of our students is really up to them. It would be more comfortable for students at DHS if these suggestions were taken into consideration though.
