Haven’t noticed any Cutting Edge Theater Club meetings lately? Wondering what latest play Desert Edge’s finest are putting on?
Well, they’re all getting ready for Arizona’s next high school acting competition.
Cutting Edge Theater was chosen among four other schools to compete in the 2nd round of a state competition, which will be held on February 23rd.
On February 3rd, Desert Edge’s best actors and actresses competed in the first round of competition at The Central Arizona Acting Festival, or CAAF, along with many other schools around the Valley. They presented a one-act play called “The Least Offensive Play in the Whole Darn World,” a comedy infomercial about a product called the “ScriptCleaner 5000,” which takes away the offensive parts of the most remembered and classic plays.
Everyone enjoyed the performance, and Desert Edge received the highest score of all the schools that competed in the one-act category.
The judges also awarded our scorpion actors a superior rating in all categories.
Who can forget Desert Edge’s outstanding production of “The Disappearance of Daniel Hand” in October of last year? You might recall Desert Edge’s major success at the Arizona State Thespian Conference in November, receiving a Best Mainstage performance rating for that same show.
Since then, Desert Edge’s actors keep on impressing the judges and knocking down competition where ever they go. So when you see Mr. Beal and the members of Cutting Edge, don’t tell them good luck, tell them to “break a leg!”
