Three key varsity football players recently were ranked on the national and state levels for their athletic ability.

Juniors Alex Sanders and Kevin Redmon and senior Nick Detelich are all ranked among the best in the nation.

Sanders is ranked Number 34 for “receiving,” Redmon is ranked Number 38 for “Passing” and Detelich is ranked Number 94 for “Tackles.”

“It feels good that I’m one of the top athletes in the nation, and that I’m recognized by that,” Sanders said.

Sanders, Redmon and Detelich also have been ranked in the Top 5 in the state at their position.

As of Oct. 19, Detelich was ranked second for “Tackles” (at 102), Redmon was third for “Passing” (1,900 yards and 13 touchdowns) and Sanders was third for “Receiving” (848 yards and 9 touchdowns).

“(The rankings) help college coaches get a good idea of what you can do if they couldn’t come see a game,” Redmon said.

“And then they can call Coach (Gary) Hurst for film.”

Hurst said he’s happy to have three players draw attention to the program.

“It means they’re catching the ball,” Hurst said.

Sanders agreed.

“It shows we have a good team with good players and they should be recognized for that,” Sanders said.

Redmon has seen players become stronger as the season has progressed.

“The offense is great this year,” he said. “We are improving every game.”

With two out of three players only juniors, Hurst already was thinking ahead to next season.

“We hope that they improve each year that they’re in our program,” he said. “And the one thing is — you can always be better.”
