The state championship was Oct. 19 and 20 at Cooper Tennis Complex. Junior Liz Saltzman and sophomore Ellen Bennett lost hard fought matches against Liberty High and Parkway South.
Throughout the season, the tennis team had the advantage of more experienced players, with one senior, Michaela Mullen.
“Coach [Bob] Cooper worked a lot with varsity players,” junior Amy Finkle said. “But I learned a lot of rules and techniques from teammates.”
Players won all duel matches in southwestern Missouri and also won the Sedalia and Springfield Invitational tournaments. Two players, Saltzman and Bennett qualified for state when they placed second at districts in doubles.
