Disney and Broadway have both produced it, and now it’s Springfield Little Theatre’s turn. With local actors and actresses helping, Landers crew have started production on its own magic carpet ride.

Sophomore Alexa Kilgore was thrilled when she landed the lead role in the production of “Aladdin.” She plays “Jasmine,” a princess who wants to experience the real world and is wooed by the daring street rat that is Aladdin. The musical will run from Nov. 29 through Dec. 9.

“It’s a huge deal to land a role in a play, especially at Landers,” Kilgore said. Nearly 200 children and young adults tried out for the production.

It’s not the first time for Kilgore to play the lead. She starred as “Leonie” in “Dirty Work at the Crossroads.” She has also played a peasant, sung in chorus, been a sign language interpreter and an “Oompa-Loompa” in the production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

Kilgore said she’s received help along the way.

“My sister is my inspiration,” Kilgore said. “She had a lead in a play last year at Landers and she has really helped me out a lot. Without her I wouldn’t be where I am.”

Other students involved in the musical include junior Brandon Martin, sophomore Christie Lee and freshman Alexa Snodgrass. Martin serves as a narrator while Lee is in the ensemble.

“We dance and sing songs and help move the story along,” Lee said.

Snodgrass plays one of the “Harem girls.”

“They’re like these girls who dance throughout the play and they’re in love with Aladdin,” Snodgrass said.
