GPAs Rise During the First Semester

A.A. Milne, the author of Winnie-the-Pooh, once said "To the uneducated, an A is just three sticks".

For Rocklin High School students, many are receiving "three sticks" on their semester grades.

385 students received 4.0+ weighted G.P.As this semester. This astonishing amount constitutes to around 20% of the entire student body

To get a 4.0 is a difficult enough task. The average GPA in America is 2.94 : a B-.

"We are extremely fortunate to have a staff of hard working, dedicated teachers that are truly passionate about teaching. This is paired with students that are motivated, determined, and have a strong desire to be successful and reach their goals," said the counselor for the class of 2013, Lissa Morgan.

What is responsible for this increase in high scores? Many students have begun to take more AP courses, which add points to their weighted GPAs.

These courses also can count for college credit, and though arduous, are highly instructive.

A 2006 study by the U.S. Department of Education found that students who take AP courses were more likely to complete their bachelor degrees.

Some of the classes that Rocklin High School offers are AP World, AP Chemistry, and AP Literature.

"At this school, APES is very nice and it’s much more interesting that it was at my old school. It’s a lot of work, but it’s nothing you can’t handle," said new student and junior Ciara Conley. She is taking AP Enviromental with Mr. Bill Kimmel.

"The high number of 4.0 students at RHS is due to an extremely hard working group of students, teachers and a community that cares about education." said principle David Bills.
