“I’ve never seen my dad yell at the TV like that,” Antonia Grieco, 10, said about her dad regarding the playoffs.

Students at Rocklin High School have been anxious for the upcoming Super Bowl featuring the New York Giants and the New England Patriots this Sunday. To make things interesting and pure confidence in who will win, some students have started to make bets.

Sophomore Daniel Smith put his money on the Patriots, whereas his father put his for the Giants. Smith had put down $15, and his dad had $30. Of course, this is a small sum of money to bet on compared to people losing hundreds of dollars, such as Smith’s uncle. He lost approximately $300 from last year.

Another student, Evan Flentge, 9, sure that the Giants would be winning this game, made a bet of ten dollars against his father. He also asked a fellow student and friend, Antonia Grieco, whether she would be willing to bet two dollars for the Patriots. Grieco declined because she claims she doesn’t know football.

“It’s gonna be close, but I think [the Giants] got this one. I’m willing to bet,” Flentge said.

Flentge’s confidence in the Giants even created a debate with his best friend, Luis Lizarraga, 9, last night, February 2, during a Mock Trial practice in the library. The two insisted that the team they were rooting for would be the winner.

“Well I am sorry that you are about to lose your money. Manning is great but he is no Brady and it’s time for the Patriots to get revenge,” Lizarraga said to Flentge. At first, Flentge put down ten dollars for their deal, but Lizarraga lowered the bet to five because he had another bet against his mother’s boyfriend.

The upcoming football game will be a momentous one for some of the RHS students as their money for the playing will ultimately be decided on the field.
