Increasing Gas Prices Hurting Students' Wallet, Too
Advertising

Many Notre Dame Academy student drivers are feeling the pinch that the rising gas prices have brought to the rest of America.

As many Green Bay gas stations have raised their price of regular gas to about $3.70, students are having a harder time finding the money to fill up a full tank, especially those who have to pay for their own.

“Gas prices haven’t hit me hard as of yet, but I predict that they will within the next month or so. With my job being seasonal, I tried to prepare for this by cutting my spending and saving more. I do not foresee these high gas prices sticking around for long and I really hope they will not approach the five dollar mark,” said Griffin Blumb, a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy.

Some students whose parents pay for their gasoline may not realize the real challenge that this is becoming. The normal gas tank holds about sixteen gallons, and with Green Bay’s gas prices today, a full tank may be somewhere around $60.

Olivia Johnson, also a sophomore, does not have a job to pay for her own gas but is still feeling the influence of this swell in price.

“I use the family car, so I do not have to directly pay for my own gas. This is still hard because I know that my family will have to make cuts in other places to even out the difference,” Johnson said.

Luke Mariani, senior at Notre Dame Academy, is also feeling the effects of the local increase in gasoline.

"I live pretty far out, at least 20 minutes from Notre Dame, so the price increase in gas is really going to kill my wallet," Mariani said.

Some students may be inclined to use the public transportation such as the city bus or the Notre Dame Academy busses. Bike riding may also be an option, though it is probably not ideal considering the season.
