Most of us at one time or another in our lives have probably wished for a
“do-over” – a chance to go back and change some event in our past. As the class of 2009 begins its final semester at WCHS, many of us are likely reflecting on our high school careers and remembering back to that day it all began nearly four years ago.
But what if we were given a “do-over”? What if we had the chance to go back and do it all again? Let’s see what a few of our school’s seniors say they would do differently if they were given the chance to be freshman again.

“I would do more work and listen to my teachers; they are always right. I would take more time to realize that being in school is only part of your life and you should cherish it because it won’t last forever.”
-Nathan Stinson

“I would have taken a few harder classes and been more prepared for college.”
-Rebekah Bell

“I would have taken harder classes.”
-Tyler East

“I don’t think I would change anything.”
-Emily Eicher

“If I were a freshman again, I wouldn’t let others put me down. I wouldn’t let others try and destroy my friendships. I would try harder in my classes. I wouldn’t let others make me think that love is everything.”
- Ashlee Neal

“I would have taken more classes. That way I would have been more prepared for what I’m going to do in my future career.”
-Maylene Hicks

“I wouldn’t act so immature. I’d have worked a whole lot harder and have considered people’s feelings before I said anything.”
-Rebecca Perdue

Looking back to that day when we first walked through the doors of Wayne County High, most of us were scared and uncertain of what would happen to us. We were at the bottom of the totem pole and we knew it. We knew we would have to wait our turn to finally reach the top, and now that we’re almost there, it seems that many of have learned some things about ourselves along the way.
Unfortunately, life doesn’t throw us many “do-over’s, so we can’t go back. However, the lessons we’ve learned over the last four years will stay with us long after we leave these hallways. And let’s not forget, next fall many of us will indeed be granted a “do-over” (sort of) when we go away to college and become “freshman again.”
