Financial assistance is available to students interested in taking college classes during high school.
Several college classes are available thru Somerset Community College here at WCHS. Available classes include, Art History 105 and 106, Biology 112, History 109, Math 150 with and without lab, and English 101 and 102.
Students who meet ACT or Compass requirements and receive free or reduced lunch can quality for a scholarship to help cover the cost of the classes.
The Mary Jo Young Scholarship, named for a former KHEAA Board of Directors member, is available to Kentucky high school students in grades 9 through 12 enrolled in dual credit classes at any college or university or students taking Advanced Placement courses through the Kentucky Virtual High School. Students receiving scholarships can receive tuition and book reimbursement for up to two courses each semester.
Applications for the 2011–2012 year are currently being accepted. Interested students should contact Guidance Counselor Donna Bridgeman for further information.
