Thursday, April 14 was National Poem in your Pocket Day. As part of this celebration, upper classman at WCHS visited freshman classrooms where they read poetry and handed out copies of poems to the students.
Freshman, Kaitlin Turner, says the event was instructive and interesting.
“It was very informative,” Turner commented, “My favorite poem of the day was ‘The Return’ by Ezra Pound.
The idea for National Poem in your Pocket day is for individuals to select poems they love and to carry them with them to share with others. According to Poets.org, poems were unfolded and shared throughout the day with events in parks, libraries, school, workplaces, and bookstores across the country.
Poem In Your Pocket Day, which is celebrated each year in April, originated in New York City in 2004.
