Would you rather play video games or be captivated by this amazing and cool book? - Simon
Diary
of a Wimpy Kid is a splendid novel written by Jeff Kinney for the inner
child we all posses inside our deepest self. The book itself is meant to
attract young readers because of the illustrations on the front and back cover
but once the chance to skim through it is given, the chances for being hooked
are astronomical in my opinion. The book in short narrates the story of Greg, a
middle school student who faces dilemmas and challenges throughout his daily
life. It also carries a sense of closeness to the character who we can relate
to for some of his adventures which reminds us about our childhood. Thus my
opinion of this book is just simply that there is nothing more fun to read than
a cartoon novel which seems to come to life every time the page is turned.
One of the parts that brings me
back to my childhood and reminds me how much we sometimes change is when Greg
says: “Let me just say for the record that I think middle school is the dumbest
idea ever invented. You got kids like me who haven’t hit their growth spurt yet
mixed in with these gorillas who need to shave twice a day.” This quote is taken
from the first pages of the book, where you get a glimpse and understand the
main character and his observations. What is interesting about it is that we
can all relate to it by the fact that once we were all kiddos as well. I mean
who didn’t hate school at that age? It brings memories. The struggles of Greg
can be universally appealing for many of us, bringing memories of your past and
the idea that how different we are from that time.
“The Simpsons,” the TV animated
cartoon series by Matt Groening could be fairly compared to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid since both attract
young minds and explain the life of each character through cartoons. Also both
reflect the struggles of American families. In the Wimpy Kid how to fit in
around school and “The Simpsons” is stet more concentrated in the quest of
adult’s issues in society. Both carry the same attraction since the basic genre
is comedy and fiction which is interesting and fun. Both are appealing to take
in during leisure times without being disturbed by outside worries.
“It is a catchy book because I can
relate it to myself and also it feels like a mirror since I can comprehend the
main character’s conflicts,” said Yu Fen Wu, a lover of comedy and cartoons.
She definitely enjoyed the book and hasn’t stopped reading the sequel and she
recommends it to those who appreciated the beauty of illustrations that can say
more than a thousand words. She mentions that those who may like the book
should also wait for the movie which comes out in the coming month.
“The illustrations are classic, the prose easy to
understand, the subject matter: hilarious and appropriate” said Amanda Williams
a customer from Amazon.com. According to her review the books left her without
breath since she laughed so much as she read the book. She also hopes to read
the sequel.
There is nothing left to say but to acknowledge this book
as funny, interesting and attractive to our eyes. It is an opportunity to set
free that inner child you have been trying to lock-up for so long and let your
imagination run free, just like old times where your world without worries was
the greatest one.
