The Indianola girls are more than half way through the season with a record of 7-8. The Indians are coming off one of their biggest wins on the year defeating the No. 4-ranked team in the state Ames 54-43 on Jan. 17.
“We played really well as a team,” said junior Chloe Crain.
The Indians were lead by junior Ally Orwig who scored 23 points. The defense also stepped up as they held the Cyclones to only 18 percent shooting from the field.
The Indians have found most of their success this season from their out-of-conference games. They have an in-conference record of 1-6 and an out-of-conference record of 6-2.
They lack a lot of depth, and the team took a big hit when they lost junior Erica Davidson for the year with her second ACL injury.
The Indians are lead by their two senior captains Alex McGinnis and Alex Bunting.
Throughout the year they have often found themselves outsized but never out hustled.
“We know we’re not the biggest team,” said Bunting. “So we know we have to out hustle our opponents.”
The ladies are scheduled to play at home against North High School on Feb. 15 for their first district game.
