Everyone at Ocean Springs High School has heard about the prestigious Competition Cast led by Mrs. Camphor. This year, they performed a rendition of Jean-Claude von Itallie’s The Tibetan Book of the Dead (Or How Not To Do It Again). The play is about the passage through the afterlife, and basically about the Buddihst views on the subject. This year we had a very talented and wonderful cast.
The cast was as follows: Tess Gutherz (12th), Jordan Bell (11th), Abby Carmichael (12th), Audra Thompson (11th), Theresa Geboy (12th), Halie Caldwell (12th), Tia Patterson (12th), Brenna Ferrell (11th), Tyler Howard (12th), Alex Burtt (11th), with the musical accompaniment of Dylan Hill (11th), Bobby Nores (9th), and Robbie Ramirez (9th). The Director was Mrs. Sandra Camphor, and the student director was Savee Dalgo. The two stage managers were Caitlin Nickerson and Dalgo. D.J. Jennings was in charge of the lights, while Briana Dixon was in charge of the spot. Bailey Haas controlled the sound, and the stage crew included: Bryan Fox, Nickerson, Zeke Harris, Tori Howard, Kristen Thomas (who was also in charge of the make-up), Tre’ Salazar, and Colten Stein.
The Competition Cast made it all the way to the State level, winning some very prestigious awards along the way. At the district level, they won the Best Ensemble Award, while Tyler Howard won the All-Star Cast Award. The judges even created a new award that they presented to the musical accompaniment students. At the state level, they won the Best Ensemble Award again, and Alex Burtt won the All-Star Cast Award.
The students did fantastic with their play this year, and we congratulate them on their wins and award.
