Contaminated water could be linked to construction aftermath

Due to the construction on campus, the water in Building 300 was polluted with clumps of glue and dirt last month.

The water turned up dirty in the cafeteria, food’s room and photos.

“I took the strainer off of my faucet and tapped it in my sink and that’s when I noticed the clumps of glue. I went to maintenance about it and then showed Jeff Feldman (assistant principal of operations and resources) the glue,” Yvonne Lopez Photos teacher said.

Linda Vallee, manager of the cafeteria, said they have filters on the ice machine and the steamer that catch most of the dirt. “When we turn on the water, we let it run for a little while before we use it.

The glue was from the lining of the pipes put in by the state construction workers. They turned on the water, and it washed away the glue and dirt particles into the pipes and faucets in the building.

“My husband works construction, and he told me that there is no such thing as a non-toxic glue that goes on PVC pipes,” Lopez said.

However Feldman disagrees.

“The water is not toxic because why would they make a toxic glue for water pipes? I knew that there would be dirt and glue in the pipelines,” he said.
