On-line registration provides many improvements over previous system: Signing up for classes goes high tech. . .

Beginning with the upcoming registration for the 2004-05 school year, a new form of registering will be made available to students and their parents.

On-line registration will become the new way for students to register for their classes beginning this month. As opposed to previous years’ method of penciling in bubbles on a bubble sheet—a system in which confusion and errors were often a problem—on-line registration will correct errors and allow review by students and their parents, as well as their counselors, before becoming final.

Counselor Matt Mims said he thinks on-line registration will greatly improve the registration process.

“Students will be able to sit down with their parents at a computer, either at home or at school, and will be able to solve problems ahead of time and review their choices,” Mims said.

On-line registration will be made available through the Parent View website, using students’ Parent View passwords. Computer labs will be open before and after school in the library to help students with no other computer access.

“It’s a huge improvement from the old bubble sheets, where it was easy to fill in the wrong class,” Mims said. “Students would make mistakes and sign up for classes they didn’t want to be in.”

The website will also display prerequisites for classes. If a class is signed up for without a prerequisite being taken, an error message will present the problem. Eventually students will be able to see their current schedule, classes they have signed up for and their high school transcript, all on-line.

On-line registration for the upcoming school year is scheduled to start on Jan. 27, with all students needing to be registered on-line by mid-February.
